Delete your Mangalyam account
1. Overview
You can delete your Mangalyam account at any time. Deletion is permanent — once it is processed, your profile and the data linked to it cannot be recovered.
This page explains the two ways to request deletion, what is removed, what is retained for legal or safety reasons, and how long the process takes.
2. Delete from inside the app (recommended)
Open the Mangalyam app and sign in with your registered phone number.
Go to the Profile tab, then tap Settings.
Tap "Delete account". You will be asked to confirm and may optionally tell us why you are leaving — this is anonymous and helps us improve.
The moment you confirm, your profile is hidden from search and from other users while your request is reviewed by our team. You will receive a final confirmation once the deletion is complete.
3. Request deletion by email (if you cannot open the app)
If you have lost access to the app — for example, you uninstalled it or changed your phone — you can still request deletion.
Send an email to admin@mangalyam.org.in from any working email address. Use the subject line "Delete my Mangalyam account" and include the registered phone number on the account so we can match the request to your profile.
We may ask you to verify a one-time password sent to the registered phone number before we proceed, to make sure no one else can request deletion on your behalf.
Once verified, our team will process the deletion and notify you by email when it is complete.
4. What gets deleted
When deletion is confirmed, the following data is permanently removed from our active systems:
Your profile, including all personal details (name, date of birth, kovil, veedu, patta peyar, education, profession, salary, family details, horoscope and any free-text fields).
All photographs you uploaded.
Interests you sent or received, mutual matches, shortlists, profile views, partner preferences, and any blocks or reports you created.
Your authentication record — the phone number is unlinked, so the same number can be used to register a fresh account in the future.
5. What we retain, and why
Aggregated, anonymised analytics — for example, total monthly active users, match counts. This data cannot be linked back to you.
A short audit log of the deletion request itself (request timestamp, registered phone number in hashed form, admin who confirmed) is retained for 90 days. This protects against fraud, abuse and accidental deletion disputes.
Records that we are required to keep by Indian law — for example, records of a report or a safety incident you were involved in. These are retained for the period required by law and then permanently removed.
Backups may continue to hold your data for up to 30 days after deletion, after which they are overwritten on the normal backup rotation.
6. Timeline
In-app requests: your profile is hidden immediately. Final hard deletion is completed within 7 working days, after a brief admin review to detect mistaken requests.
Email requests: we acknowledge within 2 working days and complete the process within 14 working days from the date your identity is verified.
If you change your mind during the review window, email us immediately at admin@mangalyam.org.in and we will try to cancel the request. Once final deletion is processed, the data cannot be recovered.
7. Contact and grievance
For any question about deletion, or to escalate a delayed request, write to our Grievance Officer at admin@mangalyam.org.in. We aim to acknowledge within 24 hours and resolve within 15 days, in line with India's Information Technology Rules, 2021.
For broader questions about how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
